The South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) has vacancies for the following positions in the Academic Divisions:

SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
The School of Engineering and Technology requires Adjunct Professors, Professors, Associate Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers and Tutorial Fellows to teach its Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree programme in the areas of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Technology degree programme in the area of Clothing and Textile Technology.

APPOINTMENT CRITERIA
Adjunct and Visiting Academic Staff

  1. Must have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field of Engineering from an accredited and recognized university
  2. Shall be appointed or re-appointed for periods not exceeding twelve (12) months, and a period of consecutive service not exceeding two (2) years.
  3. May be considered for a corresponding appointment which shall be treated as a new appointment subject to university appointment criteria
  4. Shall join the university with the titles they hold from their parent institutions.

Professor
An earned Ph.D.in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized/accredited university;

  1. At least three (3) years teaching experience as an Associate Professor or equivalent and Research experience.
  2. A minimum of sixty (60) equivalent publication points since attaining Associate Professorship or equivalent, of which at least forty (40) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
  3. Supervised a minimum of five (5) postgraduate students to completion including at least two (2) at doctoral level.
  4. Registered with the relevant professional body.
  5. Attracted research or development funds as an associate professor or equivalent.
  6. International authority on a specialist field, acknowledged for his/her contributions to the development of principles, practices and research in the field across international boundaries.
  7. Computer literacy.
  8. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity (2010).
  9. Fifteen (15) years of relevant working experience from a reputable institution.

Associate Professor

  1. An earned Ph.D.in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized/accredited university;
  2. At least three (3) years teaching experience at the university as a Senior Lecturer or Senior Research /industry experience or equivalent.
  3. A minimum of Forty (48) publication points as a senior lecturer or equivalent of which at least thirty-two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
  4. Supervised a minimum of four (4) postgraduate students to completion including at least one(1) doctoral student.
  5. Attracted research or development funds as a senior lecturer/senior research fellow.
  6. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
  7. International authority on a specialist field, acknowledged for his/her contributions to the development of principles, practices and research in the field across international boundaries.
  8. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity (2010).
  9. Fifteen (15) years of relevant working experience from a reputable institution.

Senior Lecturer

  1. An earned Ph.D.in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized/accredited university;
  2. At least three (3) years teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer or six (6) years research/industry experience.
  3. A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
  4. Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
  5. Registered with the relevant professional body.
  6. Compliance with chapter six of the constitution of Kenya (2010).
  7. In-depth professional/discipline specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge of a number of fields.

Lecturer

  1. An earned Ph.D.in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognized/accredited university;

OR

  1. A Master’s degree in the relevant field from recognized/accredited university (in special cases) with at least three (3) years teaching experience at university level.
  2. A minimum of 24 publication points, of which at least sixteen should be from refereed journal papers; and
  3. Registered with the relevant professional body.
  4. Evidence of continuing research activity.
  5. Computer Literacy.
  6. Statistical or qualitative software packages for data analysis.
  7. Compliance with chapter six of the constitution of Kenya.
  8. Eight (8) Years work experience in a relevant field.

Tutorial Fellow

  1. Have a Bachelors’ degree and a Master’s degree qualification from a recognized/accredited university in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  2. Be registerable for a Doctor of philosophy (PhD) or equivalent doctoral degree qualification.
  3. Be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body.
  4. In-depth professional/discipline specific knowledge and experience in a specialized field or broad knowledge of a number of fields.
  5. Computer Literacy.
  6. Published research finding
  7. Integrity as implied in Chapter Six of the Kenya constitution 2010

NB:

  1. Candidates applying for the position of Lecturer in Engineering and above MUST be Professional Practising Engineers registered with Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) and Corporate Members of Institute of Engineers Kenya (IEK) as per Engineers Act,2011 Section 16 and Engineers rules 2019.
  2. Candidates applying for positions of Tutorial Fellows in Engineering MUST be registered Graduate Engineers with Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) as stipulated under Section 18 of the Engineers Act 2011 and Engineers Rules 2019 and must be Graduate members of Institute of Engineers Kenya (IEK).
  3. Candidates applying for positions in Clothing and Textile Technology do not need to be registered with the Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK).
