CALL FOR ESSAYS
THEME: KENYA'S TRANSFORMATION AGENDA SINCE INDEPENDENCE AND FUTURE PROJECTION

The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), in collaboration with South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) has organized a research and public policy workshop which will take place on the 21st and 22nd February 2024, at SEKU. This workshop is under the KIPPRA flagship programme called KIPPRA Mentorship Programme for Universities and TVETS (KMPUTs). The programme seeks to mentor university and TVET students for effective participation in public policy formulation, research, policy analysis, and policy discussions. The event brings together university students, TVET students and lecturers, government, and private sector to a policy discussion under the theme, "Youth's Transformation Agenda since Independence and Future Projection".

This is a call for interested students at the institution to enter an essay competition by submitting an original essay on the theme. The essays will be evaluated and students with top essays will participate in the policy discussion as panelists. Successful essays will be published on the KIPPRA website, and certificates of participation and merit shall be awarded to students with successful and top essays respectively.

The essays should meet the following criteria:

  1. Include full name, university, school/department, registration number, university email, and mobile phone number of the student.
  2. Not exceeding 1000 words using font type Tahoma, font size 12 and 1.5 line spacing.
  3. A student will submit only one essay.
  4. The essays should address the following areas:
    • Your understanding of the Youth’s transformation agenda since independence in the context of public policy, nature and scope of growth and development.
    • Key milestones Kenya has made towards fulfilment of the transformative agenda for the youth.
    • Key limitations of the Youth’s transformation Agenda.
    • Public policy recommendations in pursuit of the Youth’s future aspirations.

The deadline for submission of essays is 5th February 2024, after which they will undergo a review process and successful entries will be notified by 12th February 2024.
