Welcome to the Board of Postgraduate studies at South Eastern Kenya University.
The Board of Postgraduate Studies (BPS) is a service and administrative directorate that coordinates the formulation and development of postgraduate programs, admission of postgraduate students, student welfare matters and stimulates mutual engagement of staff and students in collaboration with the schools in the University.
The Directorate strive to promote University excellence in postgraduate training, research and dissemination of research findings. The Mission of the Directorate is to provide high quality Postgraduate training opportunities with emphasis on Dry land Agriculture, Natural Resources Environmental Management, Science and information technology among other disciplines.
The Directorate envisions itself to be nationally innovative for co-ordination of postgraduate training.
Postgraduate programmes at SEKU have continued to grow, the current population of postgraduate students stands at 452 Masters and 95 PhD spread across different programmes in schools throughout the Main and Satellite University Campuses. Currently the university has several schools with refutable postgraduate research teams in several disciplines such as Science and Computing, Education, Business, Humanities, Agriculture, Environmental studies, Economics and Health Sciences. We offer competitive programmes with high caliber of qualified staff, who guide the students through their research.

The University Research is based on societal needs and tailors research topics towards orientation with market demands in the country and region. The University in 2020 inaugurated its first annual postgraduate conference, to provide a forum for the postgraduate students to showcase their research findings. This will be an annual event and it is now mandatory for our masters and PhD graduating students to present their work before graduation. With several well trained Professors and well equipped laboratories SEKU is among the best Universities in the region for postgraduate work. The University has well managed tracking system to ensure timely completion of postgraduate work and a very well planned and vibrate Quality Assurance Programme to ensure quality research work.

It is now a requirement that for one to be awarded a postgraduate degree from South Eastern Kenya University, they must have published at least one paper for a master’s programme and at least two papers for a PhD programme in peer-reviewed journals.
